South Carolina is looking for a tight end in the 2010 class and had one of their top targets at that position on campus during the last two days. Tight end
Trey Millard (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) talked with TheBigSpur.com about the visit, his top five schools and when he will make a decision.
Millard has offers from South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Missouri, Stanford, Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas, and others. He visited Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and USC during the last week and talked about each visit.
South Carolina: "I liked that I was able to talk with the coach. (USC running back coach) Jay Graham told me that they need me at South Carolina and they really want a tight end in this class. He is a real honest guy and he is good friends with my high school coach. Steve Spurrier told me that he plans on winning the SEC a few times over the next few years. He was also talking to me about the recruiting classes that they have been bringing in.
"I also went on a tour of the campus as well. I liked the workout facilities. They were very nice. The facilities were different then most places. It's just not all together. That isn't that big of a deal for me though. I would say that South Carolina has an "OK" chance with me. All the schools are pretty close right now."
Tennessee: "Tennessee went pretty good. I got to hang out with (UToffensive coordinator) Jim Chaney a good bit. He was fun to be around and I really liked him. It was good overall visit. I was able to meet the freshman class that they got coming in. The facilities were really nice and they are getting even more on top of that."
Vanderbilt: "Vanderbilt didn't offer me. I just went out there for a 7-on-7 event. I didn't get to talk to any of the coaches except Bobby Johnson, and that was just for a little bit. The visit was pretty nice though."
Millard will now visit Oklahoma on Aug. 5 and then will try to make a decision soon after.
"I'm trying to make this decision as soon as possible. It will most likely be before my season starts."
Despite not claiming a leader, the 6-foot-3, 225 pounder does have a top five.
"Iowa, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Tennessee, and South Carolina," he said. "I don't have a leader and that is in no type of order or anything."
ESPN/Scouts Inc. gives Millard an overall grade of 78.
