South Carolina picked up a big in-state commitment on Sunday night when wide receiver
Nick Jones (Duncan, S.C./James F. Byrnes) pulled the trigger on a verbal commitment to the Gamecocks. Jones also considered Auburn, Penn State, Michigan and some other programs.
The 5-foot-8, 180-pounder is one of the big-play threats in the Rebels’ offense this year. Jones missed the first part of the season with a knee injury, but came back for Byrnes 42-34 loss to top-ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in October. He has been one of the top performers for the Rebels ever since.
Jones was recruited to USC by running backs coach Jay Graham and defensive line coach Brad Lawing.
ESPN/Scouts Inc. rates Jones a three-star prospect with an overall grade of 77. He is the nation’s No. 86 overall wide receiver prospect.
